Lambeth leads top-ranked Hawks in Rd. 1 of Jekyll Island Collegiate

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Senior Addison Lambeth leads the field and the top-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team is tied for second after the first round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.

Due to a two-hour delay for frost on Friday morning, 11 teams were unable to finish the first round before play was suspended for darkness. Those teams will complete the opening round on Saturday.

Washington and Lee, which had three golfers unable to complete Round 1 on Friday, currently leads the tournament at 1-under-par. Huntingdon and 13th-ranked Methodist are tied for second at 4-over 292 in the 29-team field.

Lambeth, who ranks third in Golfstat's Division III rankings, shot a 3-under-par 69 in Round 1 and carries a one-stroke lead into the second round on Saturday. Lambeth closed out his first round with four birdies and one bogey in the final five holes. No. 15 Greensboro is fourth at 294 and fifth-ranked Emory rounds out the top five with at 295.

Huntingdon's Chad Ring is tied for 22nd with a 1-over 73. The senior closed his opening round with three birdies in the final four holes.

"We are still shaking off the rust but the boys hung in there. Addison looked back in form today and Chad closed his round with three birdies in the last four holes," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "It was a long winter and getting everyone in competitive shape is a challenge. But, it will come together soon."

Sophomore Stephen Shephard and freshman Drew Mathers each shot 3-over 75 and are tied for 42nd. Senior Will Thrash rounded out Huntingdon's top-five with a 6-over 78.
