Lambeth leads Huntingdon to win in Wynlakes Intercollegiate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Senior Addison Lambeth and the top-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team closed out the Wynlakes Intercollegiate on Tuesday with their first wins of the spring.

Lambeth shot 5-under-par 67 in each round and won the tournament with a 10-under 134. As a team, the Hawks shot 1-under 287 in the final round and finished the 36-hole tournament with a 9-under 567.

This was Lambeth's first win in the Wynlakes Intercollegiate and the second straight win in the tournament for the Hawks. Huntingdon has won four tournaments since the start of the fall season.

Second-ranked Texas-Tyler was the tournament runner-up, finishing 11 strokes behind the Hawks at 2-over 578. The Huntingdon B-Team was third with a 4-over 580.

The B-Team finished 18 strokes ahead of the No. 5 team (Emory), 22 strokes ahead of the No. 6 team (LaGrange) and 25 strokes ahead of the No. 7 team (Greensboro) in Division III.

Sophomore Mark Connelly led the B-Team and tied for third overall with a 4-under 140. Connelly shot a 3-under 69 in the opening round and a 1-under 71 on Tuesday.

For the Huntingdon varsity, the two-round 567 was the best 36-hole total of the spring and the third best 36-hole total of the NCAA era. The Hawks turned in the top two 36-hole performances (551 and 565) of the NCAA era during the fall season.

Lambeth's 134 is one stroke off the Hawks' two-round NCAA-era record of 133 set by Lambeth last spring. In 18 rounds since the start of the fall season, Lambeth has shot 11 rounds of par or better, including six rounds in the 60s.

Lambeth was one of four varsity Hawks to finish in the top 16. Along with the B-Team, a total of eight Hawks finished in the top 16 and all 10 of the Huntingdon varsity and B-Team golfers finished in the top 25 in the field of 80.

For the varsity, senior Chad Ring shot 1-over 73 in the final round and tied for sixth with a 1-under 143. Senior Will Thrash tied for ninth with a 2-over 146, sophomore Stephen Shephard tied for 16th with a 5-over 149 and freshman Drew Mathers tied for 25th with a 7-over 151. Mathers shot an even-par 72 in the final round.

For the B-Team, junior Jon Colten Stanaland shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday and finished tied for ninth with a 2-over 146. Junior Chase Feagin tied for 11th with a 3-over 147, freshman Alex Aulerich tied for 16th with a 5-over 149 and freshman Alex Rogers tied for 25th with a 7-over 151.

Playing as individuals, Huntingdon sophomore Joaquin Trigueros shot a two-round 160 and sophomore Sterling Dixon shot 173.

Huntingdon plays in the Emory Spring Invitational on April 8.
