Lambeth’s 64 leads Huntingdon to 5th win of the season

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Senior Addison Lambeth turned in Huntingdon's best round of the NCAA era to lead the Hawks in the final round of the Emory Spring Invitational.

Lambeth fired a 6-under-par 64 on Sunday and finished with a two-round total of 6-under 134 to win his second straight tournament.

The top-ranked Hawks shot 2-under 278 in the final round and 7-over 567 for the tournament to win their fifth event of the season. The five wins are the most since the 2009-10 season.

Third-ranked Emory finished one stroke behind the Hawks in second with an 8-over 568. Seventh-ranked Methodist was third at 575. The 15-team field included seven of the top-10 teams in Division III.

"What a great win. This is our fifth win of the season and it was the sweetest," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "Hats off to Emory, they played great. But it is hard to hold off a charge like we had today.

"Addison's 29 on the back nine came at just the right time. He was playing at a different level today. It was so much fun to watch."

Lambeth, who was 1-over-par after the first nine holes, birdied seven of the final nine holes to shoot 7-under on the back nine.

Lambeth's 64 is one stroke better than Huntingdon's previous NCAA-era record of 65 set by teammate Will Thrash last fall. The 6-under-par ties Thrash and former golfers David James, Josh Moore and Matt Mahanic for the Hawks' best round versus par since joining the NCAA.

Lambeth's two-round 134 ties his performance in this year's Wynlakes Intercollegiate and is one stroke off the record of 133 he set last season in the Emory Spring Invitational.

Behind Lambeth, Thrash tied for second with a 2-under 138. Thrash shot 1-under 69 in each round. Sophomore Stephen Shephard shot a 1-over 71 in the final round and tied for 27th with a two-round 147.

Sophomore Mark Connelly shot 4-over 74 in each round and finished 30th with a two-round 148. Senior Chad Ring shot 6-over 76 in the final round and 155 for the tournament.

Playing as individuals, junior Jon Colten Stanaland shot 6-over 76 on Sunday and 154 for the tournament and freshman Alex Aulerich shot 7-over 77 in the final round and 158 for the tournament.

Sunday's 278 was six strokes off the Hawks' NCAA-era record of 272 set last fall in the Gordin Classic and is tied for Huntingdon's fourth best round since joining the NCAA. The 36-hole total of 567 is tied for the Hawks' third best two-round total during that span.

This was the fourth time Huntingdon has shot 567 or better since the start of the fall season. The Hawks also shot 567 in the Wynlakes Intercollegiate, 565 in the O'Briant Jensen and 551 in the Gordin Classic.

Huntingdon returns to action on Thursday in the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament in LaGrange, Ga.
