Huntingdon slips to third entering final round of NCAA Tournament

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot 18-over-par 306 on Thursday and slipped from first place to third place in the third round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship.

After leading during the first two rounds of the tournament at Mission Inn Resort & Club, top-ranked Huntingdon enters Friday's final round three strokes out of first with a 26-over 890. Eleventh-ranked Wittenberg is first with a 23-over 887 and 19th-ranked Guilford is second at 25-over 889.

"I'm just glad today is over. We certainly let a lot of teams back in the race today," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "We just came out flat and never recovered. I am grateful to only be three shots back after today's performance. I'm hoping we will get off to a good start in the final round."

Sophomore Stephen Shephard led Huntingdon in the third round with a 2-over 74 and enters the final round one stroke out of first with a 2-over 218. The University of Texas-Tyler's Sam Hill and Franklin & Marshall's Brad Lanker are tied for first at 1-over 217. Shephard is one of three golfers tied for third.

Huntingdon senior Addison Lambeth, who led the field in the first two rounds, shot a 6-over 78 on Thursday. Lambeth enters the final round two strokes out of first and tied for sixth with a three-round total of 3-over 219.

Senior Chad Ring is nine strokes off the lead and tied for 32nd with a 10-over 226. Junior Jon Colten Stanaland is 10 strokes out of first and tied for 38th with an 11-over 227 and senior Will Thrash rounds out the Hawks' five with a 234.
