Connelly and Hawks tie for 2nd in Tournament Town Preview
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Mark Connelly and the fifth-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team turned in a strong performance on the final day of the Tournament Town Preview on Monday.
The Hawks, who were tied for fifth after Day 1, shot an even-par 288 in the final round and finished tied for second with a 14-over 878 in three rounds.
Top-ranked University of Texas-Tyler won the 18-team tournament by three strokes, finishing with an 11-over 875. Ninth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan also shot 878 to tie for second at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center.
Two Hawks finished in the top-six. In addition to Connelly, who was named to the All-Tournament team, senior Jon Colten Stanaland tied for sixth. Connelly shot a 3-under 69 in the final round and finished the tournament one stroke out of first with an even-par 216. Stanaland finished two strokes behind Connelly with a 2-over 218. Stanaland shot a 2-under 70 in the final round.
Guilford College's Zach Evens was the tournament medalist with a 1-under 215.
