Second-ranked Hawks in 4th entering final round of Gordin Classic

DELAWARE, Ohio – The second-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team shot 592 in the first two rounds of the Gordin Collegiate Classic on Sunday.

The Hawks shot 305 in Round 1 and 3-over-par 287 in Round 2 and are in fourth entering Monday's final round.

Top-ranked University of Texas-Tyler leads the 12-team tournament with a 10-over 578. Fifth-ranked Methodist is second at 14-over 582 and 11th-ranked Greensboro is third at 590.

Huntingdon junior Stephen Shephard is four strokes off the lead with a 3-over 145. Shephard shot 4-over 75 in the first round and 1-under 70 in the second round. Methodist's Jared Chinn and Texas-Tyler's George Toone are tied for first at 1-under 141. 

Two other Hawks, juniors Mark Connelly and Henry Gee, are nine strokes off the lead and tied for 21st at 8-over 150.

Stephen Shephard: 75-70 – 145 (T7th of 60)

Mark Connelly: 78-72 – 150 (T21st)

Henry Gee: 78-72 – 150 (T21st)

Alex Aulerich: 74-80 – 154 (T32nd)

Jon Colten Stanaland: 83-73 – 156 (T41st)

 

Director of Golf Dave Schreyer on Sunday: "We got off to another interesting start today. We couldn't do anything right in the first round, but the guys calmed down and fired a solid second round to keep our hopes alive. If we are going to have a chance in the final round, we are going to have get off to a better start on Monday."
