Third-ranked Hawks in 4th after Day 1 of NCAA Fall Preview

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The third-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team shot 594 in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament Fall Preview on Monday.

Entering Tuesday's final round at Keene Trace Golf Club, the Hawks are fourth in an 18-team field that features 15 nationally ranked teams.

Second-ranked Emory leads the field with a 1-over-par 577. The Eagles shot an 11-under 277 in the second round to build a 16-stroke lead. Eleventh-ranked Wittenberg and 24th-ranked Carnegie Mellon are tied for second at 17-over 593.

Huntingdon is 17 strokes out of first and one stroke out of second. The Hawks shot 16-over 304 in Round 1 and 2-over 290 in Round 2.

Behind Huntingdon, fifth-ranked Washington and Lee is fifth at 24-over 600, seventh-ranked Illinois Wesleyan is sixth at 25-over 601 and fourth-ranked Guilford is seventh at 29-over 605.

Junior Drew Mathers led Huntingdon with a 1-over 145 in the first two rounds. Mathers is five strokes out of first and tied for seventh. Mathers shot a 3-over 75 in the first round and matched his best collegiate round with a 2-under 70 in the second round.

Ohio Wesleyan's Shane Hoben turned in the best two-round total on Monday and leads the field with a 4-under 140. Hoben was one of eight golfers to shoot in the 60s in Round 2 and had the best round of the day with a 6-under 66.

Behind Mathers, freshman Walker Winslette shot a 3-over 75 in Round 1 and a 2-over 74 in Round 2. He is nine strokes out of first and tied for 16th at 5-over 149.

Senior Stephen Shephard is one stroke behind Winselette and tied for 20th at 6-over 150. Shephard shot a 5-over 77 in the first round and a 1-over 73 in the second round.

Four strokes behind Shephard, senior Henry Gee is tied for 38th with a 10-over 154. Gee shot 5-over 77 in each round. Senior Mark Connelly is one stroke behind Gee and tied for 44th at 11-over 155. Connelly bounced back from an 82 in the first round to shoot 1-over 73 in Round 2.
