Mathers tied for 1st, Hawks in 4th after Rd. 1 of O’Briant-Jensen

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Drew Mathers is tied for first and the second-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team is fourth after the first round of the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial on Monday.

Mathers matched his best collegiate round with a 2-under-par 69 and is in a three-way tie for first entering Tuesday's final round at the Sedgefield Dye Course. As a team, the Hawks shot a 10-over-par 294 in the first round and are seven strokes off the lead in the 18-team tournament.            

Sixth-ranked Guilford and 12th-ranked Greensboro are tied for first at 3-over 287 and seventh-ranked Methodist is third at 8-over 292.

All five Huntingdon golfers playing as a team, and one Hawk playing as an individual, are within 10 strokes of first.

Behind Mathers, seniors Henry Gee and Mark Connelly each shot 2-over 73 and are tied for 14th. Senior Stephen Shephard and freshman Carson Whitton each shot 8-over 79 and are tied for 49th.

Playing as an individual, freshman Walker Winslette also shot an 8-over 79 and is tied for 49th.

                                                                                         

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the final round of the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial on Tuesday.
