Mathers earns medalist honors, Hawks place 2nd in O’Briant-Jensen

GREENSBORO, N.C. –Drew Mathers earned medalist honors and the Huntingdon men's golf team placed second in the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial on Tuesday.

Mathers shot a 4-under-par 138 to win his second collegiate tournament. The Huntingdon junior shot 2-under 69 in each round at the Sedgefield Dye Course.

Mathers has turned in four consecutive rounds of par-or-better, including shooting his collegiate best 69 in three of his last four rounds.

As a team, the second-ranked Hawks shot a 4-under 280 in the final round and finished with a 6-over 574. Sixth-ranked Guilford won the 18-team tournament with an even-par 568.

In addition to Mathers, senior Henry Gee also finished in the top-10. Gee shot a 1-over 72 in the final round and tied for eighth with a 3-over 145.                                 

Senior Mark Connelly shot a 3-over 74 in the final round and tied for 16th with a 5-over 147. Freshman Carson Whitton shot his first collegiate round in the 60s with a 2-under 69 in the final round. Whitton tied for 23rd with a 6-over 148. Senior Stephen Shephard closed the tournament with a 1-under 70 and finished 29th with a 7-over 149.

Playing as an individual, freshman Walker Winslette shot an even-par 71 in the final round and tied for 30th with an 8-over 150.
