Huntingdon men’s lacrosse falls to Rhodes in season opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team scored four second-half goals but fell to Rhodes 8-6 on Saturday in the season opener for both teams.

Tied 4-4 in the third period, Rhodes pulled ahead to a two-goal lead for most of the final period.

Mike Kasmarik led Huntingdon with three goals and Brandon Sewell had a goal, seven ground balls and won 9-of-14 faceoffs. Jakob Works finished with a goal and an assist, LaDarius Williams scored one goal and Jimbo Turk had five ground balls.

Goalie Fabien Gutierrez recorded eight saves.

"We shot poorly and let Rhodes hang around the entire game," Huntingdon head coach Andrew Carey said. "In the fourth period, we had to play man-down for much of the period and it hurt us. This wasn't the start we wanted, but we're going to keep working and get ready for Wednesday.

The Hawks host Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The game will be the first Huntingdon athletic event played entirely under the new lights at Samford Stadium.
