Men’s lacrosse falls to Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team dropped its first game this season, losing to Southwestern 8-7 on Sunday.

Senior Jakob Works got the offense going for the Hawks (3-1), scoring the game's first goal midway through the first quarter from an assist by Mac Puller. The Pirates tied the game with 1:14 left in the first.

After an early second quarter goal by Southwestern (2-1), Works netted two goals to give Huntingdon a 3-2 lead heading into halftime.  

Jackson Schrampfer gave Huntingdon a two goal lead early in the third before Southwestern scored with 16 seconds left in the quarter.

The Pirates used a five goal fourth quarter to hand Huntingdon its first loss this season. Works scored his final goal to tie the game with 12:07 remaining.

The Pirates scored three straight goals to take an 8-5 lead with 2:46 left. Brandon Scheele scored a man-up goal with an assist from Davis Dalton before Dalton scored his first goal to pull the game within one. The Pirates were able to hold the lead for the final seven seconds to get the win.

Sam Hitt dominated at the faceoff x, going 14-of-19 and picking up three ground balls.

Works finished with four goals, giving him 20 for the season. Dalton added one goal and one assist and three ground balls.

Scheele and Schramppfer scored once while Puller had one assist and Karson Hastings added one assist, pushing his season total to 12.  

Chad Ronk finished with five ground balls and one caused turnover.

Fabien Gutierrez stopped 13 shots while allowing eight goals and scooped up three ground balls.

The Hawks travel to play rival Millsaps on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
