Ballard’s goal ends Hendrix’s hopes in OT

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Senior Kendrick Ballard scored with 62 seconds left in overtime to help the Huntingdon men's lacrosse team knock off Hendrix College 6-5 on Sunday.

The win was the fifth in seven meetings with the Warriors. Huntingdon is 4-0 against Hendrix at Samford Stadium since the series began in 2012.

The Hawks controlled the game early and built a 3-0 lead early in the second quarter. Huntingdon led 4-1 at halftime before Hendrix rallied in the second half.

The Warriors scored three straight goals to tie the game 4-4 entering the fourth quarter. Ballard's second goal of the game put the Hawks back in front midway through the fourth quarter. But Hendrix tied the game 5-5 on a man-up goal in the final four minutes of regulation to force overtime.

Ballard finished with three goals, Bryce Coates scored two goals and Adrian Harper had one goal and two caused turnovers. Caleb Bohrer and Jackson Schrampfer each had one assist.

Sam Hitt was 8-for-15 on faceoffs and had a team-high five ground balls. Mike Jones and Raymond Edwards each finished with two caused turnovers.

Goalie Matt Murphy recorded 10 saves and allowed five goals.

Quick Facts: Sunday's win pushed Huntingdon's record to 3-0. This is just the second 3-0 start in seven seasons for the Hawks. The 2016 team also started 3-0 … This was the second overtime victory against Hendrix in seven games. The Hawks won the first game of the series 9-8 in overtime at Samford Stadium in 2012.
