Hawks tie season record for wins, win battle for 1st in USA South

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team became the first team in Division III to reach 10 wins this season with Wednesday night's 6-4 win at Piedmont.

The victory tied the Hawks' season record for wins. With a 10-1 record this season, this is the fastest Huntingdon has ever reached 10 wins. The 2014 team reached 10 wins in 16 games and the 2017 team reached 10 wins in 17 games.

Huntingdon and Piedmont both entered Wednesday's game unbeaten in the USA South. Huntingdon now sits at the top of the USA South standings with a 4-0 conference record. Piedmont drops to 2-1 in conference play.

Huntingdon controlled the tone of the game from the start. The Hawks scored three goals in the first quarter and led 4-1 at halftime. Huntingdon built a four-goal lead early in the fourth quarter before Piedmont scored two goals in the final eight minutes.

Miles Stading and Adrian Harper combined for five goals and one assist in the game. Harper had three goals and an assist, including two of the first four goals and the final goal of the game. Stading scored twice in the first half. Austen Saucier scored Huntingdon's remaining goal.

Sam Hitt was 5-for-12 on faceoffs and had four ground balls. Unofficially, Hitt currently leads Division III with 138 faceoffs won this season. Hitt entered the game ranked second in Division III with 133 faceoffs won and was four short of the Division III leader, who did not play on Wednesday.

Huntingdon goalie Matt Murphy recorded five saves in nine shots on goal.
