Huntingdon pulls away from Shorter in second half

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team scored eight goals in the second half and knocked off Division II Shorter University 13-3 on Wednesday night.

The win was the 13th in 15 games for Huntingdon. The 13 wins are the most in Division III this season.

Against Shorter, Huntingdon held a 3-2 lead late in the first half before pulling away with 10 goals in the final 34 minutes. Bryce Coates and Seth Howe closed the first-half scoring to give Huntingdon a 5-2 lead at the half.

Huntingdon outscored Shorter 8-1 in the second half, including seven straight goals to end the game. Huntingdon matched its season best with three goals allowed.

Coates led Huntingdon with four goals and four ground balls and Howe finished with two goals and an assist. Jackson Schrampfer and Caleb Bohrer each scored two goals and Zach Barnhill, Miles Stading and Kendrick Ballard each had one goal and one assist.

Adrian Harper, Sam Hitt and Carmen Fuentes each had one assist. Harper also had two caused turnovers and three ground balls and Fuentes had three ground balls.

Hitt was 15-for-20 on faceoffs and had eight ground balls. Hitt, who is 203-for-293 on faceoffs this season, leads Division III in faceoff wins.

Tyler Keiser finished with two caused turnovers. Goalie Matt Murphy recorded 8 saves and allowed three goals in a little more than 54 minutes and goalie Stephen Dan had two saves in the final 5:37.
