MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's soccer team battled Rhodes College and came away with a 1-1 tie in double overtime on Saturday.

Huntingdon's Jack Allen scored in the first 31 minutes and the Hawks' defense helped set the tone for the remainder of the game.

"This was a huge result for us against an established program and a very well coached team," Huntingdon head coach Timmy McCormack said. "They have very smart players and we did well to get our first goal and then battle to a 1-1 draw.

"I was especially happy with the play of our younger guys. We started seven freshmen and a lot of those guys grew up today."

Huntingdon (2-4-1) went ahead 1-0 when Allen scored on a header over the charging goalie. Rhodes' Charles Mansour answered with a shot over the goalie into the top right corner to tie the game with less than three minutes to play in the first half.

Huntingdon's defense frustrated Rhodes throughout the game. The Lynx (1-4-1) took 26 shots, including 13 shots on goal. Huntingdon keeper Alex Brown recorded 12 saves and one goal allowed in 110 minutes.

Allen finished with three shots on goal and Austin Savage and Turner Adcock each took one shot on goal. The Hawks ended the game with a total of 14 shots.

Huntingdon returns to action on Sunday at home against Oakwood. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
