Huntingdon men’s soccer downs Tennessee Temple

MONTGOMERY, Ala. –Rhett Williams scored on an assist from Trevor Byrum to help the Huntingdon men's soccer team get back in the win column Friday.

Williams' goal in 71st minute lifted the Hawks to a 1-0 victory over Tennessee Temple and snapped a tough four-game stretch. Since a season-opening 4-0 win on Aug. 30, the Hawks (2-2-2) had lost twice and tied twice, including a double-overtime tie on Wednesday.

"This is a big confidence boost for us," Huntingdon head coach Matt Williams said. "We've put together some good performances in our past few games, we just couldn't find the final piece of the puzzle to get the win. We've been playing well on defense, but we haven't been taking enough chances on offense. It's good for the boys to see what can happen when you take a few more chances and come out with a win."

As a team, Huntingdon took six shots on goal and 12 total shots. Tennessee Temple finished with 14 shots. Williams finished with two shots on goal and Owen Orrison, Robbie Farquhar, Halston Michaud and Nick Stinson each took one shot on goal.

Huntingdon keeper Sebastian Garcia recorded four saves in 90 minutes.

The Hawks travel to Toccoa Falls for a 6 p.m. game on Wednesday and will begin USA South Conference play on Sept. 28. Nine of the Hawks' final 10 regular-season games will be conference games.

"We've played a good mixture of teams so far, teams that have given us different looks early in the season," Williams said. "Each game, we've faced something a little different. We've faced international players, we've faced some teams that are more technical and others that are more physical. I think that will be good for us going into conference play. I feel like we're learning to adjust to whatever comes our way."
