Huntingdon falls behind against Piedmont

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's soccer team scored 63 seconds into Friday's game with Piedmont.

But the Lions answered and handed the Hawks a 6-2 loss at Samford Stadium.

Senior Brendon Van Emelen scored both goals for the Hawks (1-4-1, 0-2-0 USA South). Van Emelen scored on an assist from Bo Jenkins for the early 1-0 lead. After Piedmont (4-3-1, 2-1-0 USA South) scored three straight goals and took a 3-1 lead, Van Emelen scored on an assist from Killian Delmore in the 31st minute. The goal was the seventh of the season for Van Emelen.

Piedmont carried a 4-2 lead into the half. The Huntingdon defense limited Piedmont's opportunities in the second half before the Lions scored two goals in the final seven minutes.

Van Emelen finished with four of the Hawks' nine shots on goal. Jenkins and Mac Puller each took two shots on goal and Jean Jocelyn had one shot on goal.

Dakota Gruzdas (1-3-1) had six saves and six goals allowed.

Huntingdon returns to action at Samford Stadium on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Hawks host Maryville in a USA South Athletic Conference matchup.
