Hawks dominate Birmingham-Southern in season opener

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's soccer team opened the season with a 5-1 victory over Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday night.

The win was Huntingdon's second straight against the Panthers. Huntingdon earned its first NCAA-era win against Birmingham-Southern last season.

In 10 games since the two teams began competing as Division III opponents in 2009, this was the Hawks' largest margin of victory. Huntingdon has outscored Birmingham-Southern a combined 9-3 in the last two meetings.

The Hawks started strong on Wednesday, with Hunter Hall scoring two goals in the first 14 minutes of the game. A goal by Thad Lievens in the 29th minute helped Huntingdon take a 3-1 lead into halftime.

The Hawks added their final two goals in the first nine minutes of the second half. Austin Priemer scored in the 53rd minute and Sammy Sanchez made it 5-1 in the 54th minute.
