Men’s tennis has solid start in John McWilliams Fall Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Huntingdon men's tennis team battled hard on the first day of the 2014 John McWilliams Invitational at Lagoon Park on Friday and ended with solid results in both singles and doubles.

After the first day of play, the Hawks lead the tournament with 14 points. Millsaps College sits in second with 11 points while Birmingham Southern College claimed 10 points to grab the third spot. Point University took 6 points while LaGrange College failed to score a point.

In singles play, Bobby Foroughian (No. 2), Zac Baldwin (No. 3), Aaron Triplett (No. 5) and John Jones (No. 6) took wins with Jones winning in straight sets.

The Hawks took four of five doubles matches with the teams of Foroughian-Baldwin (No. 1), Meyer Schwartzberg-Trey Pirtle (No. 2), Tyler Chaffee-Triplett (No. 3) and Justin McQueen-Bailey Burns (No. 4) winning.

Second round play starts on Saturday at 8 a.m. at Lagoon Park.
