Meadows’ no-hitter helps Lady Hawks complete sweep of Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon softball team pounded out 27 hits in two games and pitchers Brooke Meadows and Melissa McClure took care of the rest in a 9-2 and 12-0 sweep of Covenant on Monday.

Meadows' no-hitter in Game 2 helped the Lady Hawks (10-8) cap the day and improve to 4-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference. Meadows faced 18 batters, striking out eight, walking two and hitting one batter in five innings. McClure earned the win in Game 1, striking out five and scattering 10 hits in seven innings.

Gabby Alcantar, Jade Reynolds and Lauren Welch combined for 13 hits in the two games. Alcantar was 6-for-9 with a RBI, three runs and two stolen bases. Reynolds was 4-for-6 with two RBIs, four runs and two stolen bases. Welch was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs and a stolen base.

Trailing Covenant (2-20, 1-5 GSAC) after three innings in Game 1, Huntingdon generated 13 hits and nine runs in the final four innings. Ashlee Zachmeyer had two RBIs and a run in the game. Jenna Rimensnyder and Kaetlen Brown each scored one run and McClure had one RBI.

In Game 2, Huntingdon scored five runs in the first three innings and put the game away with seven runs in the fifth inning. Ashley Hawkins capped the Lady Hawks' scoring with a two-run homer in the top of the fifth.

Hawkins finished Game 2 with two hits, three RBIs and a run. Halleigh DiNicholas had two hits, two RBIs and two runs and Brittany Richardson had two hits and two runs. Rimensnyder had two RBIs and a run and Ashley Johnson scored two runs and stole three bases.

Huntingdon returns to action at home on Wednesday with a doubleheader against Spring Hill. Game 1 is set for 2 p.m.
