Huntingdon softball closes out conference play unbeaten

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Huntingdon softball team closed out the regular season with a pair of 11-4 wins over Salem College on Saturday.

Huntingdon (23-9, 16-0 Great South Athletic Conference) has won 23 of its last 26 games this season and 20 straight GSAC games dating to last season. Entering the conference tournament next week, Huntingdon has won 34 of its last 35 conference games.

In Saturday's sweep, the Lady Hawks finished with 21 hits and three home runs. Brittany Richardson was 5-for-7 on the day with four runs and a RBI and Lauren Welch was 3-for-7 with a two-run homer, four RBIs and three runs.

Holly Ostrander hit a solo home run, drove in two runs and scored three runs and Halleigh DiNicholas hit a two-run home run and finished with two RBIs and three runs. Chasity Ward and Kaetlen Brown each drove in three runs and scored once on the day.

Jenna Rimensnyder had a RBI in Game 1 and Gabby Alcantar, Jade Reynolds and Alicia Gauker each scored once. Rimensnyder scored twice in Game 2 and Ashlee Zachmeyer and Justice Fuller each scored once.

Melissa McClure (13-3) picked up the win in Game 1, scattering nine hits, striking out seven, walking one and allowing two earned runs in seven innings. Brooke Meadows (7-5) earned the win in Game 2, striking out 11, walking four, allowing seven hits and three earned runs in seven innings.
