Huntingdon softball sweeps Talladega in home opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Kaitlynn Wiggins drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game 1 and Huntingdon scored five runs in the sixth inning of Game 2 to sweep Talladega College 1-0 and 9-5 in softball on Monday.

Wiggins' one-out bunt scored Daisha Henderson to end the first game. Brooke Meadows (2-1) picked up the win, striking out eight, walking one and allowing three hits.

In Game 2, Anna Stephens (1-0) earned the win with one hit, one walk and no runs in three innings of relief. The Lady Hawks (3-2) trailed 5-2 in the fifth inning when senior Jenna Rimensnyder hit a two-run homer, her second collegiate home run, to make it a one-run game.

In the sixth, the Lady Hawks scored five runs on four hits and two errors to complete the comeback. Gabby Alcantar scored on a wild pitch to tie the game before Rimensnyder and Wiggins both scored on an error to give Huntingdon a 7-5 lead. With one runner on, the Lady Hawks added two more runs when Jade Reynolds tripled and then scored on the throw.

Rimensnyder finished the day 3-for-6 with two RBIs, three runs and three stolen bases, Halleigh DiNicholas was 3-for-4, Wiggins finished with two hits, two runs and a RBI and Holly Ostrander had two hits, a run and a RBI.

Tiffany Taylor had two hits and a run, Reynolds and Henderson each had a RBI and a run, Heather McGuirk had two hits and Alcantar scored once.

Huntingdon returns to action on Saturday at home against Berry. Game 1 of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
