Huntingdon softball splits with Avenging Angels

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team bounced back from a 7-4 loss in Game 1 on Sunday to beat Meredith 7-1 in Game 2 of a USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Six players drove in seven runs in Game 2 and pitcher Katy Messick limited Meredith to four hits and one unearned run. Messick (3-1) struck out five and walked one as she picked up the win in seven innings.

Holly Ostrander, Heather McGuirk and Morgan Goshorn each had two hits for the Lady Hawks (7-6, 3-1 USA South) in Game 2. Ostrander had two RBIs and a run, McGuirk had a RBI and a run and Goshorn had one RBI.

Jenna Rimensnyder had two runs and two stolen bases and Ashlee Zachmeyer had a RBI and a run. Gabby Alcantar and Alicia Gauker each had one RBI and Daisha Henderson and Jade Reynolds each scored once.

Ashley Johnson was the only Huntingdon player with multiple hits in Game 1, finishing 2-for-3 with a RBI. Ostrander and Lauren Welch each had a RBI and a run. McGuirk had one RBI and Alcantar and Rimensnyder each scored once.

Starter Anna Stephens (1-3) took the loss in 2 innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs.

Huntingdon travels to Ferrum for a conference doubleheader on Saturday.
