Softball splits with Berry in home opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team split with Berry College on Saturday. The Lady Hawks (3-1) took the first game 3-2 before falling 13-0 in five innings in Game 2.

Senior Tiffany Taylor led Huntingdon with two RBIs in the first game and sophomore Kala Rooney had one RBI. After falling behind 1-0 in the fourth inning, Taylor singled up the middle to score Chelsea Messer and Heather McGuirk. Taylor then scored on Rooney's RBI single.

Berry (2-2) made it a 3-2 game in the sixth inning, and had a runner in scoring position in the seventh before Huntingdon made the final out at third base to end the game.

Senior Katy Messick (2-0) pitched a complete game to earn the win. Senior Anna Stephens (0-1) took the loss in Game 2.

In the second game, Berry scored six runs in the first inning on four hits, three errors and three walks. The Vikings made it 12-0 in the third inning.

Freshman Lindsey Selph, junior Jessica Swindle and sophomore Jesse Dunn accounted for Huntingdon's three hits in the game.

Huntingdon travels to Millsaps on Feb. 28. Huntingdon is scheduled to play the Majors at 11 a.m. and Webster at 3 p.m.
