Lady Hawks come up short in softball doubleheader at William Peace

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Huntingdon softball team lost two conference games at William Peace on Sunday. The Lady Hawks fell 4-3 in Game 1 and lost 7-1 in Game 2.

Peace (3-4-1, 2-0 USA South) won Game 1 with a RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning. In Game 2, the Pacers jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first three innings.

In Game 1, Huntingdon (3-9, 0-4 USA South) led 3-2 after four innings. Gabby Alcantar scored the first run when Brandi Blair drew a bases-loaded walk. A single by Katy Messick scored Felicia Peoples to tie the game 2-2 in the third inning.

Ashley Johnson stole home in the fourth inning to give the Lady Hawks a one-run lead. Peace tied the game in the fifth.

Alcantar had two of Huntingdon's five hits in the game. Johnson finished with three stolen bases.

Messick (2-4) took the loss in Game 1. Lindsey Selph (0-2) took the loss in Game 2.

Selph accounted for Huntingdon's only run in Game 2 with a solo home run in the third inning. The freshman is tied for second in the conference with three home runs this season.
