Huntingdon’s Selph named USA South Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon freshman Lindsey Selph was selected as one of the USA South Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Selph was named the conference Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week for her performance in a pair of USA South wins this past weekend. A native of Tifton, Ga., Selph was 2-0 on the mound, earning wins against Greensboro and 21st-ranked Averett.

Selph pitched a complete game as the Lady Hawks snapped Averett's 22-game winning streak and handed the Cougars their first loss of the season in a 3-2 victory. Selph and the Huntingdon defense held Averett, which was averaging 10.2 runs per game entering Sunday's doubleheader, to its lowest scoring output of the season.

Against Greensboro, Selph pitched 6 1/3 innings to earn the win. In the two games, Selph posted a 2.62 ERA in 13 1/3 innings.

For the season, Selph is 4-3 with a 2.94 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings.

Baseball Player of the Week
Cody Molosky, Methodist - The senior outfielder from Bayboro, North Carolina went a combined 8-for-17 (.471) with four RBI and four runs scored as the Monarchs posted a 4-0 record last week. In a 14-5 win over Guilford, Molosky was 2-for-5 with one run scored. In a three-game sweep of USA South foe Maryville, Molosky was a combined 6-for-12 with four RBI and three runs scored. Also Nominated: Ciro Norzagaray, N.C. Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Josh Evans, Greensboro - The Monroe, North Carolina freshman tossed a complete-game shutout in a 4-0 victory over USA South foe Ferrum in his only appearance on the mound last week for the Pride. Evans allowed a total of five batters to reach base on four hits with zero walks and six strikeouts. Softball Player of the Week 
Whitney Wolfe, Piedmont - The senior infielder from Buford, Georgia went a combined 8-for-9 (.889) with a .923 on-base percentage and tallied a 1.444 slugging percentage to go along with four runs scored, four RBI, one double, two triples and three walks as the Lions posted a 3-1 record last week versus USA South competition, In a doubleheader sweep of Meredith, Wolfe was a perfectly combined 5-for-5 with three runs scored, three RBI, one double, one triple and two walks. In a doubleheader split with N.C. Wesleyan, Wolfe was a combined 3-for-4 with one run scored, one run batted in and one walk. Also Nominated: Jasmine Edgren, N.C. Softball Pitcher of the Week
Mary Beth Smith, Averett - The Elon, North Carolina junior appeared in two games last week, both starts, and posted a 2-0 record with a 0.58 ERA by tossing 12.0 innings, allowing one run on seven hits with one walk and eight strikeouts versus USA South competition. In an 11-0 win over LaGrange, Smith earned a complete-game shutout by allowing just three hits with zero walks and five strikeouts. In a 12-1, five-inning, victory over Huntingdon, Smith went the distance, allowing one run on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Additionally, at the plate, Smith was a combined 8-for-12 (.667) with seven RBI, five runs scored and one home run. Also Nominated: Jasmine Edgren, N.C. Lacrosse Player of the Week
Kirstin Norris, Greensboro - The Bushwood, Maryland junior midfielder tallied 17 points on 15 goals and two assists to go along with 20 draw controls, seven ground balls and seven caused turnovers as the Pride posted a 2-1 record last week. In a 16-15 win over Centre, Norris totaled five goals, seven draw controls and three caused turnovers. In a 9-8 victory over USA South foe Methodist, Norris scored four times with eight draw controls, three ground balls and one caused turnover. Finally, in an 18-14 loss to Randolph-Macon, Norris scored six goals, dished out two assists, collected five draw controls, grabbed four ground balls and caused three turnovers. Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Blake Forrest, Piedmont - The St. Johns, Florida sophomore goalkeeper posted a 4.00 goals against average and a .714 save percentage while playing 120 minutes in goal and stopping 20 shots in a 2-0 week for the Lions versus USA South competition. The two Conference wins gave Piedmont its second consecutive USA South Regular Season title. In a 20-4 win over LaGrange, Forrest collected nine saves. Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Fabio Pereira, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Sao Paulo, Brazil earned a 4-0 singles record and a 3-1 doubles mark last week for the Bishops. In singles-action, Pereira earned three wins over USA South competition, Covenant, Piedmont and Maryville, at the number-one singles position while his fourth win of the week came against opposition from 25th-ranked DePauw. In doubles-play, Pereira teamed with Andres Gomez to collect wins over the three USA South opponents. Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Natalia Lopez, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore from Maracaibo, Venezuela earned a 3-0 record at both the number-one singles and doubles positions against USA South competition last week for the Bishops. In singles action, Lopez earned wins over opposition from Covenant, Piedmont and Maryville. In doubles play, Lopez teamed with Maria Fernanda Orona to grab the three victories. Kyle Vidano, Averett - The freshman shortstop from Charlottesville, Virginia went a combined 9-for-16 (.563) with five RBI, four runs scored, one walk and one stolen base in a 2-2 week for the Cougars. In a 17-9 win over Lynchburg, Vidano was 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored. In losing two out of three games to USA South foe Piedmont, Vidano was a combined 6-for-12 with three runs scored, two RBI, one walk and one stolen base.

In a doubleheader sweep of Meredith, Gentry was a combined 2-for-6 with four RBI, three runs scored and two walks. In a doubleheader split with N.C. Lindsey Selph, Huntingdon - The Tifton, Georgia freshman posted a 2-0 record in two appearances, both starts, with a 2.63 ERA last week for the Hawks. In 13.1 innings pitched, Selph allowed eight runs, five of which were earned, on 16 hits with nine walks and four strikeouts. In an 8-6 win over Greensboro, Selph tossed six and one-thirds innings, allowing six runs, three of which were earned, on eight hits with eight walks and three strikeouts. In a 3-2 victory over previously unbeaten Averett, Selph tossed a complete-game allowing two runs on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout. Also Nominated: Logan Lowery, N.C. Carlee Joseph, Meredith - The Hollywood, Maryland freshman attacker tallied 14 points on 13 goals and one assist to go along with six ground balls, five caused turnovers and two draw controls in a 2-0 week for the Avenging Angels. In a 20-9 win over Centre, Joseph notched nine goals with three caused turnovers, one ground ball and one draw control. In a 16-4 win over USA South foe Ferrum, Joseph totaled four goals, one assist, five ground balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control. In singles play, Zhang earned wins at the number-two position over opposition from USA South foes Ferrum and Piedmont while she collected a victory at the number-one position over an opponent from Salem.
