Lady Hawks split with Avenging Angels

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team split with Meredith College in a conference doubleheader on Saturday.

Huntingdon took the first game 3-1 but fell 5-2 in Game 2.

Raina Lanier (5-5) earned the win in Game 1, allowing just four hits in a complete game. Lanier struck out eight, walked two and allowed one unearned run.

The Lady Hawks (10-10, 4-2 USA South) scored three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead. Jamie Langford drove in Blake Rowland and Brandi Blair with a single to make it 2-0.

Langford advanced to second when Meredith (12-10, 2-4 USA South) tried to throw Blair out at home. The Avenging Angels attempted to throw Langford out at second but a throwing error allowed Langford to score and make it a 3-0 game.

Rowland and Blair were each 2-for-3 in Game 1.

In Game 2, Huntingdon took an early 2-1 lead on an inside-the-park home run by Chelsea Messer and an RBI double by Lindsey Selph that scored Felicia Peoples.

Meredith answered and took the lead with three runs in the fifth inning and a run in the sixth.

Messer finished with two of Huntingdon's four hits in the game.

Selph (3-2) took the loss in 4 1/3 innings.

Huntingdon hosts William Peace (18-6, 7-1 USA South) in a doubleheader on Sunday. Game 1 is set for noon.
