Huntingdon splits with Battling Bishops

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team lost Game 1 but rallied to win Game 2 in a doubleheader with North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks fell 8-5 in eight innings in the first game and won the second game 3-2.

In Game 2, trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning, Huntingdon (13-17, 7-7 USA South) scored three runs to take the lead. Jessica Swindle drew a bases-loaded walk to score Chelsea Messer and Brandi Blair hit a two-run single to score Blake Rowland and Katrina Harden.

Lindsey Selph (4-2) picked up the win in 4 1/3 innings and Swindle earned the save.

Selph and Harden combined for four of Huntingdon's six hits in the second game. Selph and Harden were both 2-for-3.

In Game 1, in her only at-bat, Selph hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to force extra innings. But the Battling Bishops (13-13, 10-6 USA South) answered with four runs in the eighth inning.

Daisha Henderson had two hits and two runs in the first game and Harden had two RBIs on a two-run double. Rowland drove in one run and Messer and Blair each scored one run.

Kerri Reed (2-7) took the loss in relief.

Huntingdon will host Methodist in a doubleheader on Sunday. Game 1 is set for 11 a.m.
