Softball stumbles in pair of extra-inning losses to Covenant

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team came up short in a pair of extra-inning losses in a conference doubleheader with Covenant on Friday.

The Lady Hawks fell 8-2 in nine innings in Game 1 and lost 6-4 in eight innings in Game 2.

In Game 1, junior Alyssa Singleterry drove in two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Covenant took control with six runs in the top of the ninth inning.

In Game 2, Huntingdon carried a 4-1 lead into the seventh inning before the Scots tied the game. Covenant scored two runs in the top of the eighth to take the lead and held off the Lady Hawks in the bottom of the eighth.

Singleterry led Huntingdon with four RBIs and a run and was 4-for-7 in the doubleheader.

Singleterry had two of Huntingdon's four hits in Game 1. Claire Tomberlin and Paige Taylor each scored one run in the first game. Lindsey Selph (2-6) took the loss in relief in both games.

In Game 2, Singleterry, Madison Perryman and Samara Miller combined for six of Huntingdon's seven hits. Singleterry was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, Perryman was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Miller was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

McKenzie Ridgway had one RBI and a run and Katie Dewey and Amari Fleming each scored one run.

Coming Up: Weather permitting, Huntingdon will host Wesleyan in a doubleheader on Sunday. Game 1 is set for noon.
