Huntingdon falls to USA South West Division leader Maryville

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team lost both games of a doubleheader with Maryville on Sunday during Senior Day.

Huntingdon fell 4-0 in Game 1 and lost the final game 16-5 in six innings.

The two losses were the first conference losses of the season for Huntingdon (19-11, 4-2 USA South). Maryville (18-8, 10-0 USA South), the West Division frontrunner, remained unbeaten in conference play.

In Game 1, Maryville scored one run in the third inning and three runs in the sixth inning. The Lady Hawks had opportunities but could not capitalize on them. Huntingdon ended four innings with runners in scoring position.

Rayne Ellis and Madison Perryman accounted for Huntingdon's two hits in Game 1 and Alyssa Singleterry had two stolen bases. Madison Hunt (11-3) took the loss in Game 1 and Mallory McCarty (2-4) took the loss in Game 2.

In Game 2, Huntingdon rallied from a 7-0 deficit with five runs in the second inning. But Maryville answered and pulled away late in the game.

Singleterry was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run in Game 2 and Lydia Lewis was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. McKenzie Ridgway had one RBI and Claire Tomberlin, Annie Nolan and Caitlyn Caffee each scored one run.

Coming Up: Huntingdon hosts Wesleyan in a conference doubleheader on Wednesday. Game 1 is set for 3 p.m.
