Lady Hawks lose first game of Pat Deacon Classic

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Katie Martin, Patricia Pickens and Morgan Crawford combined for 47 points on Monday but Marietta College took an 84-68 win.

Huntingdon (3-5) set the tone early and led by as many as 10 points in the first half. But the Pioneers (5-5) used two big runs to take control of the game.

A pair of Martin free throws gave Huntingdon a 25-15 lead with 11:31 left in the first half. Marietta answered with a 29-13 run to close out the half and take a 44-38 lead.

The Pioneers built a 10 point lead in the first minute of the second half before Huntingdon rallied and took a 50-48 lead on a Martin 3-pointer with 16:52 to play in the game. A Pickens field goal gave the Lady Hawks a 52-50 lead a minute later.

From there, the momentum swung to Marietta as the Pioneers closed the game with a 34-16 run.

Martin finished with five 3-pointers and scored a team-high 17 points. Pickens added 15 points and 13 rebounds and Crawford followed with 15 points, eight assists and five steals. Tanjanik Munford pulled down 12 rebounds.

Huntingdon plays Muskingum in the second day of the Pat Deacon Classic on Tuesday.
