Lady Hawks lose at Agnes Scott, drop to second in GSAC standings

DECATUR, Ga. – In a battle for first place in the Great South Athletic Conference, the Huntingdon women's basketball team came up short Tuesday night.

The Lady Hawks, who were held to 18 points in the first half, rallied in the second half but fell to Agnes Scott 58-53.

The loss snapped Huntingdon's seven-game winning streak and dropped the Lady Hawks (12-9, 5-2 GSAC) to second in the GSAC standings behind conference-leader Agnes Scott (12-8, 6-1 GSAC).

Katie Martin and Morgan Crawford each scored 11 points for Huntingdon and Tanjanik Munford and Patricia Pickens each recorded double-doubles. Munford finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds and Pickens added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jodie Thomas pulled down nine rebounds.

The Scotties jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the early minutes of the game and led 37-18 at the half.

Huntingdon came out stronger in the second half. The Lady Hawks used a 26-9 run during the first nine minutes of the second half to pull within two points, 46-44.

Huntingdon pulled within a point, 51-50, with 3:01 to play, but could not overtake the Scotties. Agnes Scott hit two field goals and three free throws in the final 90 seconds of the game to hold on.

Huntingdon returns to action on Saturday, hosting Covenant at 1 p.m.
