Prater scores 30 in Lady Hawks’ first conference win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Senior Raven Prater set two Huntingdon single-game records as the women's basketball team cruised past Mary Baldwin 80-48 on Saturday.

The win is the first USA South Athletic Conference victory for the Lady Hawks (7-3, 1-2 USA South). Huntingdon will try to even its conference record on Sunday, playing host to Meredith College (3-5, 1-1) at noon.

Against Mary Baldwin (0-8, 0-2), Prater scored 30 points to set the Lady Hawks' NCAA-era record for points in a game. The previous mark of 28 points was set by Morgan Crawford against Mississippi College last season and tied by junior Pat Pickens against Greensboro earlier this month.

Prater also set Huntingdon's NCAA-era single-game record for 3-pointers with eight, finishing 8-of-14 from 3-point range. Ronnisha Ravizee held the previous record with seven 3s against Piedmont in 2006.

"I'm proud of Raven. She's been a hard worker and a key part of this program for four seasons," Huntingdon head coach Buzz Phillips said. "It's fitting for her to make her mark in the record book. She shot the ball well today and we look for her to continue to make big plays this season."

As a team, Huntingdon was 15-for-30 from 3-point range. The 15 3-pointers broke the Lady Hawks' previous NCAA-era mark of 13, set against Wesleyan in 2008.

Behind Prater, freshman Mackenzie Garmany hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points. Freshman Jello Weatherspoon added two 3-pointers, 10 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Brianna Glenn had Huntingdon's other 3-pointer and also recorded three steals.

Pickens finished with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals and junior Tan Munford pulled down eight rebounds and had three assists.
