Lady Hawks come up short in OT

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team went to overtime with Ferrum College on Saturday before falling 72-68.

The Lady Hawks (7-6, 2-3 USA South) trailed by as many as 10 points early in the second half before rallying to take the lead with a little more than 14 minutes to play. Ferrum (5-5, 3-1 USA South) regained the lead in the final six minutes and led 61-59 with 31 seconds to play when Huntingdon senior Pat Pickens tied the game. Ferrum turned the ball over in the final seconds of regulation and Huntingdon missed a desperation shot at the buzzer to force overtime.

Huntingdon led 68-67 with a minute to play in overtime, but Ferrum sealed the win with a field goal and three free throws in the final 40 seconds.

Pickens finished with a game-high 24 points and Jacole Hairston led Ferrum with 22 points. Pickens leads the USA South with 20.5 points per game this season. Hairston is second at 19.3 points per game.

Savannah Ward added 13 points and a season-high six steals for Huntingdon and Mackenzie Garmany had 11 points. Freshman Tiara Howton turned in a season-high 10 points and led the Lady Hawks with eight rebounds. Tan Munford pulled down seven rebounds.

Huntingdon hosts Averett (4-7, 2-3 USA South) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
