Pickens reaches 1,400 career points in loss to No. 20 Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team battled but fell to 20th-ranked Maryville 56-45 on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks (12-10, 6-7 USA South) never trailed by more than 14 points in the game and pulled within seven points twice in the final 11 minutes. But Maryville (20-2, 12-1 USA South) was able to make its lead count.

Senior Pat Pickens led Huntingdon with 15 points and eight rebounds. With the 15 points, Pickens became just the second Lady Hawk during the NCAA era to reach 1,400 career points. She now has 1,407 points in 100 games. Former Huntingdon standout Tiffany Jordan holds the scoring record with 1,414 points.

Pickens, who set the program's NCAA-era single-season scoring record of 424 points last season, broke the season scoring record on Saturday and now has 431 points in 22 games this season.

Pickens was the only Huntingdon player to score in double figures on Saturday, but along with Pickens, four Lady Hawks finished with eight rebounds or more. Tan Munford led Huntingdon with 10 rebounds, Mackenzie Garmany had nine rebounds and Juliette Harp had eight rebounds.

Munford now has 839 career rebounds and is Huntingdon's second-leading rebounder during the NCAA era. Jordan holds the career record with 863.

Huntingdon plays at Piedmont on Sunday at 2 p.m.
