Munford sets new career rebound record for Lady Hawks

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team closed out its season with a 73-50 loss to 17th-ranked Maryville on Saturday.

The game marked the close of record-setting careers for seniors Pat Pickens and Tan Munford. The two Anniston natives left their marks on the Huntingdon women's basketball program during the past four seasons.

A four-year player, who appeared in 104 games, Munford made her final game count as she set the Lady Hawks' NCAA-era record for career rebounds on Saturday. She broke the record with 18:25 left in the game.

Her seventh rebound of the game gave her 864 for her career. Huntingdon Hall of Famer Tiffany Jordan held the previous record of 863.

Munford finished the game with 11 rebounds to give her 868 for her career. In addition to the total rebounds record, she also holds the Lady Hawks' career mark for rebounds per game with 8.4. and ends her Huntingdon career ranked sixth in blocked shots and field goals made and seventh in scoring, steals and free throws made. She also ranks first and second for rebounds in a season.

Senior Pat Pickens closed her career with 14 points and six rebounds against Maryville (23-2, 15-1 USA South). Pickens finished with a program-record 1,473 career points. She scored a program-record 497 points this season.

In 103 career games, Pickens set 17 Huntingdon career, season and single-game records. She owns the career marks for field goals made, field-goal percentage, free throws made and free-throw percentage and ranks second in career steals, third in career rebounds and fifth in career assists.

She turned in three of the top five single-season scoring performances in program history and three of the top nine single-season rebounding performances. She set the single-game scoring record with 37 points earlier this season and owns the top six single-game scoring marks. She also set the single-game rebounding record with 20.

Behind Pickens and Munford, sophomore Mackenzie Garmany added 12 points on Saturday. Huntingdon ends the season with a 13-12 record overall and 7-9 in the USA South.
