Lady Hawks come up short against Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team fell to conference opponent Covenant College 74-70 on Saturday afternoon.

Huntingdon, playing in their third USA South Athletic Conference game of the season, lost the lead in the final minutes as Covenant was able to use an 8-2 run in the final 1:33 to secure the win.

Both teams played even throughout the first half, with neither team leading by more than six points. Huntingdon (5-5, 0-3 USA South) used a 9-0 run in the final 1:19 of the half to take a 40-37 lead into halftime.

The Lady Hawks opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run to take an 11 point lead before Covenant (3-8, 1-3 USA South) was able to pull their deficit back into single digits and go into the fourth quarter leading 55-57. 

Juliette Harp recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds while going 8-for-15 from the field. She finished with three blocks. Harp leads the USA South with 12.4 rebounds per game and 2.3 blocks per game and is fifth with 14.0 points per game.

Birmingham native Mackenzie Garmany scored six three pointers to give her a season-high 18 points. Garmany also had four assists and four steals. Senior Savannah Ward scored nine points and recorded six rebounds while Jenna Dorman added nine points.

The Lady Hawks will play at Piedmont on Sunday at 1 p.m.
