MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team matched nationally ranked Maryville College for three quarters on Friday night.
But Huntingdon fell behind in the fourth quarter and lost 73-64. The Scots are ranked 15th in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll.
Behind career-high scoring performances from sophomore Juliette Harp and junior Jello Weatherspoon, the Lady Hawks (9-10, 4-8 USA South) battled Maryville (18-3, 11-1 USA South) to a 51-51 tie early in the fourth quarter.
The Scots used a 12-2 run during the next four minutes to make it a 10-point game with 4:28 to play. Maryville extended its lead to as many as 15 points, 71-65, with 2:04 left in the game.
Harp turned in her 14th double-double of the season with 12 rebounds and a career-high 28 points. She also had four blocks, pushing her conference-leading total to 56 for the season.
Weatherspoon hit three 3-pointers and finished with a career-best 19 points. Senior Savannah Ward added eight points.
Huntingdon returns to action at Roland Arena on Saturday for Senior Day. The Lady Hawks host Covenant at 4 p.m.
