Women’s basketball rebounds with win over Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team defeated Salem College 69-61 on Sunday to improve to 12-4 on the season.

The Lady Hawks had four players score in double-digit points, with Jenna Dorman and Juliette Harp each leading Huntingdon with 17 points. Harp finished with seven rebounds and three blocks while Dorman pulled down six rebounds and recorded three steals.

Both teams traded the lead throughout the first quarter, but Salem (5-11. 2-4 USA South Athletic Conference) used a 17-2 run to close the quarter and took a 26-17 lead into the second.

Huntingdon would go on to outscore the Spirits 17-10 in the second quarter and trailed 36-34 at halftime.

The third quarter seemed to be the turning point, with Huntingdon scoring 22 points to Salem's 13. Trailing by three with 6:19 left in the quarter, the Lady Hawks used a 16-3 run to take a 56-49 lead going into the fourth.

Huntingdon held the lead for the remainder of the game despite a Salem comeback. The Lady Hawks improve to 5-2 in conference play and currently sit in third place in the USA South West Division standings.

The Lady Hawks recorded 21 assists, scored 30 points in the paint and had 22 points off turnovers.  

T.I. Duncan turned in 10 points, eight assists, and six rebounds while Jello Weatherspoon scored 10 points and recorded five rebounds and five assists.

Keturah Billen finished with seven points and had a team-high nine rebounds and four steals. Mia Hudson finished with seven rebounds.

Huntingdon hosts Rust College on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in Roland Arena.
