Harp’s double-double helps Lady Hawks to 14th win of the season

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Junior Juliette Harp scored a season-high 25 points and blocked a game-tying shot as the Huntingdon women's basketball team defeated Covenant 60-58 on Friday night.

Trailing by one with a little less than seven minutes to play, Harp made a free-throw to tie the game 53-53 and made a layup with 4:04 left to give the Lady Hawks a lead that they held for the remainder of the game. Harp added 11 rebounds and two blocks in the win.

The Lady Hawks earned their 14th win of the season and improved to 6-2 in the USA South Athletic Conference. The Scots fall to 8-9 and 2-5 in conference.

Covenant jumped out to an early lead and controlled most of the first quarter, but the Lady Hawks used a 10-3 run late and took a 21-20 into the second quarter. Huntingdon led for the entire second quarter and went into halftime with a 31-26 advantage.

The Lady Hawks held the lead for most of the second-half and took their biggest lead, 51-41, with 15 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Covenant would go on to outscore Huntingdon 15-9 in the fourth, but the Scots were only able to score five points in the final 7:20 of play as the Lady Hawks were able to hold off the comeback.

Jello Weatherspoon scored 10 points and had five steals while T.I. Duncan finished with 6 points, four steals and five rebounds.

Maia Hill turned in seven points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Keturah Billen added eight points and six rebounds.  

The Lady Hawks scored 24 points off of turnovers and scored 38 points in the paint. Huntingdon also added 15 second-chance points to Covenant's four.

Huntingdon plays conference leader Maryville on Saturday at 5 p.m.
