Huntingdon overcomes slow start to beat Wesleyan

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team opened USA South Athletic Conference play with a 66-48 win over Wesleyan College on Tuesday night.

The Lady Hawks started slow and trailed by nine points, 16-7, late in the first quarter before rallying. Huntingdon used a 15-0 run to take the lead and a 29-2 run during a 10-minute span in the first and second quarters to take control of the game.

Mia Hudson scored back-to-back baskets to tie the game and give Huntingdon the lead for good in the first two minutes of the second quarter. A pair of free throws by T.I. Duncan made it 36-18 with 2:03 left in the first half.

Huntingdon led 36-21 at halftime and extended its lead to 20 points twice in the second half.

Juliette Harp and Hudson both recorded double-doubles for Huntingdon and Duncan just missed a double-double. Harp finished with a game-high 21 points and 20 rebounds to go with four assists and two blocks.

Hudson had 10 points and 11 rebounds at halftime and finished the game with 17 points, 15 rebounds and three assists. Duncan totaled eight points and nine rebounds and had a game-high five assists and three blocks.

Alex Lowery rounded out the top scorers with 13 points. Lowery also had four rebounds and four assists to go with a team-high four steals.
