Huntingdon pushes winning streak to five games

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team won its home opener and extended its winning streak to five games with a 73-55 victory over Brevard College on Sunday.

Senior Alex Lowery and junior Shaonica Thomas led the Lady Hawks (7-1, 3-0 USA South). Lowery led all scorers with 21 points and also had three assists. Lowery, who scored 12 points in the first half, finished 8-for-12 from the field. Thomas turned in a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Payton Kiser added eight points, Indya Lawrence finished with seven points and four assists and Keturah Billen had seven points. T.I. Duncan and Destinee Washington each pulled down six rebounds.

Leading 10-8 with 5:34 left in the first quarter, Huntingdon began to pull away with a 12-3 run. The Lady Hawks led 22-13 at the start of the second quarter and continued to pull ahead.

A basket by Ry Whetstone gave Huntingdon an 11-point lead less than two minutes into the second quarter. The Lady Hawks would lead by double digits for the remainder of the game. Huntingdon carried a 14-point lead, 37-23, into the half and led by 26 points, 59-33, at the end of three quarters.

Brevard (6-3, 2-2 USA South) pulled within 14 points in the fourth quarter before Huntingdon answered and closed out the game.
