JACKSON, Miss. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team fell behind early and lost to Belhaven 80-61 on Thursday night.
The Lady Hawks played from behind but kept Belhaven within reach for three quarters. Huntingdon trailed 40-31 at halftime, made it a two-possession game twice in the third quarter and trailed 63-54 with 6:30 to play in the game.
But from there, Belhaven used a 16-2 run to put the game away. Peyton Papenburg helped spark the run with seven of her game-high 36 points.
Senior Shaonica Thomas led Huntingdon with a double-double and senior Keturah Billen and sophomore Ry Whetstone just missed recording double-doubles. Thomas finished with 16 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Billen had nine points and 11 rebounds and Whetstone had 10 points and eight rebounds.
