Huntingdon comes up short against Louisiana College

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon women's basketball team lost to Louisiana College 73-72 on a shot at the buzzer on Sunday.

The Hawks played from behind for much of the third and fourth quarters, but were tied 71-71 with 11 seconds to play. A free throw by Ry Whetstone put Huntingdon in front 72-71 with seven seconds remaining, but Louisiana College scored as time ran out to win the game.

The Wildcats' final basket capped a game that saw Huntingdon build a nine-point lead in the first quarter and a 10-point lead in the second quarter before Louisiana College began to rally. Huntingdon led 34-31 at halftime.

In the second half, the Wildcats took the lead in the first two minutes of the third quarter. The Hawks would not trail by more than six points in the game, but Louisiana College maintained the lead for 16 of the final 18 minutes.

Alina Shoemake scored 13 points for Huntingdon and Wyatt Bak had 12 points and four assists. Keturah Billen added 10 points, five rebounds and three steals and Whetstone had nine points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Destiny Cross finished with six rebounds and three assists and Kassidy Crawford had four assists and three steals.
