Huntingdon stumbles at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn.  – The Huntingdon women's basketball team came up short in a 64-59 loss to Sewanee on Friday.

The Hawks played from behind for the entire second half, but never trailed by more than nine points. Huntingdon pulled within a point of Sewanee, 54-53, on a pair of free throws by Shaonica Thomas with 2:45 to play in the game.

Huntingdon only trailed by three points, 56-53, with less than a minute to play. The Hawks cut Sewanee's lead to three points three more times in the final 25 seconds. But Sewanee hit 8-of-10 free throws in the final 30 seconds to maintain the lead and close out the game.

Thomas led all scorers with a double-double of 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. The senior hit 10-of-13 free throws. Ry Whetstone added 16 points and A.B. Davis had six rebounds.

Huntingdon led for most of the first half, taking its first lead with 5:16 left in the opening quarter. The Hawks led by as many as eight points in the first quarter and would not trail again until the final minute of the second quarter.

Huntingdon trailed 30-28 at halftime before Sewanee pulled ahead in the third quarter. The Hawks trailed by six points, 47-41, at the end of three quarters.
