Hawks lose struggle with Millsaps

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon women's basketball team lost to Millsaps College 60-51 on Sunday.

Despite falling behind by as many as nine points in the first quarter and 10 points at halftime, the Hawks had opportunities to turn the momentum in the second half. But the Majors answered each time.

Trailing 28-18 at halftime, Huntingdon scored the first eight points of the second half and pulled within a point twice in the third quarter. A 3-pointer by Alexis Osteen made it 30-29 and a jumper by Ry Whetstone made it 32-31 before Millsaps closed the quarter with a 9-3 run. The Majors carried a 41-34 lead into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Huntingdon cut Millsaps' lead to two points twice.  A 3 by Wyatt Bak made it a 43-41 game with 6:30 to play and a basket by Alina Shoemake made it 45-43 with 4:53 remaining.

From there, Millsaps began to pull ahead for good and built as much as a 12-point lead in the final minute.

Shoemake led Huntingdon with 13 points, Bak added 11 points and Indya Lawrence had 10 points and six rebounds. Destiny Cross had a team-high eight rebounds and Whetstone had five rebounds.
