Huntingdon uses balanced attack in conference win against Covenant

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon women's basketball team downed Covenant College 78-46 on Friday night.

Huntingdon was able to play 15 players in the game. The Huntingdon bench accounted for 42 points as 13 players scored for the Hawks. Nine players scored between five and 10 points.

Eight games into the conference schedule, Huntingdon is 7-1 in the USA South. The Hawks are ranked second in the West Division of the conference.

On Friday, Huntingdon took control of the game quickly. The Hawks jumped out to a 14-4 lead in the first six minutes of the game, led 18-9 at the end of the first quarter and continued to pull away in the second quarter.

A pair of free throws by Keturah Billen gave Huntingdon a 22-11 lead with 8:45 left in the first half. The Hawks would lead by double digits for the remainder of the game. Huntingdon led by as many as 24 points in the first half and extended the lead to 36 points in the second half.

Shaonica Thomas led Huntingdon with 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Alina Shoemake added nine points and three assists and Billen and Alexis Osteen each followed with eight points.

Sidney Ison pulled down eight rebounds and Ry Whetstone, Kassidy Crawford and Kelcie Smith each had three steals.
