Thomas scores career-high 26 points in win over Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.  – Senior Shaonica Thomas scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Huntingdon women's basketball team in a 56-48 win over Covenant College on Friday.

Thomas scored 13 points in each half and sparked a key stretch of the second and third quarters that helped the Hawks swing the momentum and the game in their favor.

Trailing by nine points, 29-20, just before halftime, Huntingdon used a 24-6 run to take the lead for good. Thomas scored 11 points during the run, including the basket that put the Hawks in front for good.

After outscoring Covenant 11-4 to close the first half and open the second half, Huntingdon tied the game 33-33 on a basket by Indya Lawrence. Thomas scored with 2:49 left in the third quarter to give Huntingdon its first lead of the second half.

Leading 42-36 at the end of the third quarter, Keturah Billen scored five of the Hawks' first nine points in the fourth quarter to help Huntingdon build its largest lead of the game, 51-38.

The Hawks led by at least seven points for the remainder of the game.

In addition to her 26 points, Thomas also had eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Billen added seven points, Ry Whetstone had eight rebounds and Kassidy Crawford had four steals and three assists.
