Huntingdon women’s golf finishes 15th in first competition of the spring

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's golf team shaved 18 strokes off its first-round score and finished 15th in Birmingham-Southern College's Ann Rhoads Invitational.

After shooting 386 in the opening round on Sunday, Huntingdon came back with a 368 on Monday and finished with a 754 at the Valley Course at Oxmoor Valley.

Sophomore Saem Hur led Huntingdon with a two-round total of 172. Hur, who was four strokes off the lead with an 85 on Sunday, followed up with an 87 on Monday.

The University of Indianapolis' Darin Pinnick and Methodist University's Jennifer Sullivan were tied after 36 holes at 14-over-par 158. Sullivan shot the low round on Monday with a 73, but Pinnick won the tournament in a playoff. Indianapolis' Jenny Konop was third at 159.

Indianapolis won the team title with a 644, shooting 336 on Sunday and 308 on Monday. Tennessee Tech University was second at 658 and Methodist University was third at 662.

Huntingdon junior Ali Hamil finished 11 strokes behind Hur at 183. Senior Kaitlin Rozof finished at 196, junior Alex Foster followed at 203 and sophomore Joanne Jeon shot 280.

"I'm proud of the way our girls battled," Huntingdon golf coach Matt Mahanic said. "We faced some tough conditions and a competitive field to start the spring. We've got work to do, but we're looking forward to the Berry Invitational."

The Lady Hawks return to action on March 5-6 in Rome, Ga., in the Berry Spring Invitational.
