Four Huntingdon golfers named Academic All-Americans

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Four Huntingdon golfers were named Academic All-Americans for their work in the classroom and on the course this past season.

Rodes BowersJamey Lester and Tyler Schmutz were named to the Golf Coaches Association of America's Cleveland/Srixon All-America Scholar team and Saem Hur was named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association's All-American Scholar team.

Hur was just one of 89 Division III women's golfers who received the honor, while Bowers, Lester and Schmutz were just three of the 52 Division III men's golfers who were awarded with the honor.

To be eligible for the Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, the student-athlete must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

To be eligible for selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team, the student-athlete must maintain an overall grade-point average of 3.50 or higher for the entirety of her college career, be in attendance at the certifying institution for the entire academic year, be of high moral character and in good standing at the college making the nomination, and must have played a minimum of 12 rounds and hold an adjusted scoring average of 95.00 or less.

The 2013-14 Huntingdon women's golf season gets underway on Sept. 22 when the Lady Hawks host the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate, while the men open their season on Sept. 15 at the Tunica Invitational.
